Water

Water available to the Cities of Mankato and North Mankato comes from wells, with a storage capacity of nearly 14,000,000 gallons. The City of Mankato completed construction of a one million-gallon water tower in 2000 to effectively service the expanding and regionally significant hilltop area.

Wastewater Treatment

Municipal wastewater treatment for both cities is done by the City of Mankato. The plant completed a $24.5 million upgrade/expansion in 2000.

HIGHWAYS

The Greater Mankato area has an excellent transportation network - located less than one hour from the Iowa/Minnesota border and 65 miles southwest of Minneapolis/St. Paul. Two U.S. highways and two state highways intersect in Mankato·North Mankato. Interstate highways 35 and 90 are accessible in less than one hour.

AIR SERVICE

The Mankato Regional Airport provides a hub for emergency medical supplies, agricultural materials, high technology equipment, and packages and letters. One of the busiest municipal airports in the state with over 110,000 take-offs and landing annually, it also serves private corporations, sports teams, national entertainers, and government officials. Nearly $6 million in improvements were completed in 1997. Air time to the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport is 20 minutes.

BUS SERVICE

Coach, charter, and land-to-air bus services to the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport are available. Mankato Area Bus Service provides city bus service and mobility bus service.

RAIL SERVICE

The Union Pacific and DM&E provide rail transportation, with major routes to the Twin Cities, Chicago, and other destinations throughout the nation.

INTERSTATE TRUCKING

Over 30 trucking companies serve the area, capable of handling all types of freight.

EXPRESS DELIVERY SERVICE

Small package delivery, including overnight air carrier service, is readily available in Greater Mankato. The City of North Mankato houses a regional distribution center of UPS and a modern Federal Express facility.
