Mankato Area Radio Club offers 64 members of amateur radio operators. Licensed by the FCC. Provides emergency communications and sends out spotters for emergency weather conditions. As a hobby, members are assigned certain frequencies and own mobile units in cars and hand held radios in their homes. Amateur radio operates can run 1500 watt compared to CB users who only use 4 watts. Participants must learn Morse code and be proficient with all rules and regulations and must be tested to obtain license.
